<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff0000;">Asbestos Garage Roof?</span><br />
<span style="color: #0000ff;">Is it going to kill my children?</span></h2>
<p>To most people this is a ridiculous statement.  However, it is the essence of a telephone conversation I had recently with a very worried lady. It’s a symptom of all the hype and hysteria that is banded around about the <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>“A”</strong></span> word.</p>
<p>If you believe all the hype in the media regarding asbestos you could be forgiven for thinking that you only had to see an Asbestos Garage Roof and you would be dead by the following week?</p>
<p>In reality, if you treat your asbestos garage roof with respect and common sense it is not a danger to you or anyone else.</p>
<p>If you look at the terminology first, the expression Asbestos Garage Roof is a misnomer. They are in fact cement sheets with a very small quantity of asbestos fibres bonded within the cement.  So they really should be called cement sheets.</p>
<p>An article explaining all the ramifications of an Asbestos Garage Roof will be published on this website in the next week or so</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Whilst you wait, this very short video will give you a few ideas of what you can do with an Asbestos Garage Roof<br />

<p>Gutterline is manufactured exclusively by H D Sharman Ltd from their own patented Rubberised Plygene material, which is incredibly hard-wearing and carries a 20 year guarantee. Yet it is pliable enough to mould to any gutter profile and will tolerate changes in temperature and building movement without splitting or cracking.</p>
<p>The unique Gutterline system creates a totally sealed, fully waterproof ‘gutter within a gutter’, which when installed correctly will not allow any water to penetrate behind or beneath it. The original gutter is left untouched – leaks and all – so there is no need for any structural work and Gutterline can be fitted even in damp conditions.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Fit New Gutters &amp; Fascias</span></h2>
<p>One of the cheapest and most cost-effective methods of improving your house is to fit new Gutters &amp; Fascias.   Here are very few pictures that demonstrate what I mean.</p>
<div id="attachment_342" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Gutter1.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-342" title="Gutter1" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Gutter1-300x200.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Cast Iron Gutter with brackets rusted away and eaves felt rotted</p></div>
<p>In this first image, you can see daylight between the gutter and fascia indicating that the under tile felt has rotted away in this area. This has allowed water to run between the gutter and the fascia, which in turn has caused the gutter brackets to rust away.</p>
<p>If you look closely, you may also notice the mould around the joint to the left of the outlet.<br />
This is a very god indication that the gutter is leaking.</p>
<p>As this cast-iron gutter is no longer supported, it presents a serious hazard as it could fall at any time.</p>
<div id="attachment_343" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Gutter2.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-343 " title="Gutter2" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Gutter2-300x180.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="180" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">New uPVC Gutter fitted onto new Fascia &amp; Soffit with Felt Support Tray to prevent splashback</p></div>
<p>Here you can see, in this second image, that the fascia has been clad with new UPVC.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Felt Support Tray</span></h3>
<p>Where you previously saw daylight between the gutter and fascia, the Felt Support Tray has been fitted to ensure there really is no splashback down the fascia.</p>

<p>Here is a roofing service problem that is very common but is often ignored<br />
because it is normally &#8220;Out of Sight and Out of Mind!&#8221;</p>
<p>When a row of hip ridges looks as miserable as these,<br />
you may suspect there is a problem</p>
<p>However, leaks may occur before the cement drops out<br />
If the &#8216;Bonnets&#8217; have not been fitted correctly</p>
<p>Here is how to do it properly:</p>
<p><iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tkeJMwpB39c?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Sorry the video is a bit &#8216;Cheesy!&#8217; but hey!</p>
<p>We are expert Roofing Contractors; not video makers;</p>
<p>Steven Spielberg can sleep peacefully knowing<br />
we are not trying to take over his job!</p>

			</a>
		</div>
<p>There are literally thousands of Sheds and Garages up and down the UK<br />
with roofs of asbestos cement.</p>
<p>Many of these,  built in the 1950&#8242;s and 60&#8242;s and are now beginning to leak</p>
<p>In the &#8216;Good Old Days,&#8217; the policy was to scrape of the moss off of the sheets<br />
and coat the roof with a bitumen treatment.</p>
<p>Scraping the moss off is frowned upon these days because of the risks of<br />
disturbing asbestos fibres that may be released from the sheet</p>
<div id="attachment_212" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/TonyWard1.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-212" title="Asbestos Garage Roof1" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/TonyWard1-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Typical Asbestos Garage Roof</p></div>
<p style="text-align: left;">So, what is the best solution?</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">One idea is to overlay the roof with Insulation and Steel Sheets</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">First you must fit the spacer bars</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110142.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-214" title="Spacer Bars fitted over Asbestos Roof" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110142-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">Then, if you wish, you can add Insulation.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110155.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-215" title="Here we are adding a glass fibre quilt" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110155-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Here we have added a glass fibre quilt</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Then you fit the roof sheets</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110162.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-216" title="Fitting the Roof Sheets" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110162-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">Then, when the sheeting is done, you must attend to the edge details</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110171.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-217" title="Fit the edge details" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/P2110171-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">And the roof is then finished</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff0000;">&#8220;Do I Need Snow Guards?&#8221;</span></p>
<p>That is a question I have been asked 100&#8242;s of times in the last 2 weeks</p>
<p>So; what is the answer?</p>
<p>Well, my answer is this.</p>
<p>If there is something under your roof that would be damaged<br />
if a pile of snow fell on it; then &#8220;Yes&#8221;  You need them</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Here are a few images of some we have fitted</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030122.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-202" title="SnowGuard Fitted on Rafter Brackets" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030122-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">These were fitted onto Rafter Brackets</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030126.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-203" title="Snow Guards With Brackets Screwed To Wall" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030126-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;">These are fitted onto Brackets Screwed to the Wall</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030129.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-204" title="Snow Guards" src="http://mayfield-roofing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/P1030129-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;">This is another example of Snow Guards fitted Outside of the Gutter</p>
